Emotions Girl: Process 3

Yay, I got more progress on the Emotions Girl today! Felt so good to spend a few solid hours on painting her. She now has more legs! But I may have yet something special to add to them, hehe...

I decided the last typographic treatment was just not matching her tone and the overall mood, also it wasn't very legible. Someone said it was felt like "Nightmare Before Christmas" and that's when I knew it needed a makeover! So, I customized a classically pretty font (Georgia) to make it work instead. The background isn't finalized yet but is heading in the direction I want.

I still got leaps and bounds to go to bring her to the level I want, but it's been really fun so far!

Newspaper Headings

Hello! Just wanted to tell you about the latest Web Designer magazine, issue 157 (that's the cover up top) :)

This month, I cover how to create web headers inspired by newspaper styles like a financial newspaper, retro broadsheet and trashy tabloids. As always, it was fun coming up with the tutorials and this time, I got to "invent" my own news, which made it extra fun! Perhaps I can moonlight as a news reporter / journalist documenting fictitious news?

TCAF 09

What a fun time! I drew silly doodles on a projector for very energetic kids on behalf of Owlkids magazine, met really cool artists / illustrators, and picked up some zines and goodies.

Sorry for the lack of pictures as I didn't have my camera! There were many things I wanted to take pics of, from the many booths to the funny doodles of humanized tomatoes with sunglasses I drew. Oh boy, the kids got demanding! "Add hair! Add sunglasses! Give him a face!!" Hehe it was all good because I just really wanted them to like my drawings and laugh and they did. :) At the end, the drawings were raffled in a draw. I was extra honoured that some kids picked mine and even asked for my autograph. How super cute!

It was also great to see my school friends and catch up, as well as reconnecting with my Owl team. But what surprised me the most was when strangers saw me and remembered me from last year's Fan Expo and told me they loved my work - aww! One girl even asked if I've been on TV, hehe. This definitely makes me want to do cons again this year.

The day ended nicely as I met the very talented Tara McPherson and picked up a copy of Skim by Jillian Tamaki. I've been meaning to get it for some time so I'm so glad I finally did!

Emotions Girl: Progress 2

A progress screenshot of my emotions girl! She is now adorned with her emotive phrase (I tried making it artfully legible. I hope it is!) The typographic element is in its bare form right now; textural / colour / pattern treatment to be applied next, as well as more painting of the girl.

What do you think? Feedback anyone?

Eat it Up! Cookbook

Guess what arrived today?? It was "Eat it Up!", a children's cookbook by Owl!

I was one of the illustrators who did step-by-step illustrations for recipes like Freaky Fries, Crunchy Fish Sticks, and Melty Munchies. Check out one of my spreads and the cover above. I just might make some of these yummies myself!

Weekly Project: Consequence

Behold my first illoz for Weekly Project! I missed the actual deadline so created this for the consequence deadline. The brief was "take a picture of yourself smiling really hard with a sign that screams "I'm Happy!"

I would be a lot happier if I had actually gone to the dentist...(the image reminded me that I need to go soon!)

Emotions Girl: Progress

Here's a look at my new series "Emotion Girls" (title yet to be decided but that's a temp one for now). It's still in progress but I have a good feeling about it! Gonna work on the surrounding typographic element next and will post more progress as it develops.
