Happy Friday! A few copies of my short graphic novel "After June" is available at The Beguiling, a delectable comic book shop in downtown Toronto. Each copy is available for $7 Cdn. There's a section near the entrance dedicated to indie zines and that's where you'll find me!
"After June" tells the beginnings of an impossible crush I had two summers ago. It was exhilarating, obsessive, frustrating and hilarious. When I think back on it, I STILL can't believe some of the things that happened! Oh the woes of infatuation...
Here's a snippet of "After June": www.wendyding.com/storyboards.html
Here's the official Beguiling site: www.beguiling.com. It's located at 601 Markham Street in Toronto, Canada.
Hopefully you'll laugh along at my woes of infatuation with me!
Xoxo,
Wendy

Graphic Novel Snippets

These are snippets of the graphic novel I illustrated for Rubicon Publishing. The story is about friendship and peer pressure between three best friends. The main character has to decide if she wants to switch to a gifted school and give up her current best friends, while one of the girls can't seem to stay out of trouble. Oh drama! Even teen girls aren't exempt, are they?
I can relate to this story as I've experienced similar situations as a school girl, plus going back down memory lane always feels special. I brought my own experiences and memories into the illustrations as much as I could muster.
It will be available as an educational tool for teachers and educators in August 2009.

After June

I thought graphic novels were never for me...until I had a story to tell, and now I do! Here are some excerpts from my graphic novel "After June" so far. It is still a work in progress.

Near Drown Day

This happened to me this past summer. What a fateful day that was...but I won't get into the details. I am just happy I lived to tell about it and was saved in time.

West Side Story Storyboard

A nine-panel storyboard outlining the events at the dance that ultimately leads to the discovery of Tony and Maria's ill-fated romance. A soft, pastel palette is used to emphasize the nostalgia of the times and the romantic mood. Such a sad sad story...
